2017 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Lineup

Serving Paramus, Ridgewood, and Fair Lawn, NJ

The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter has been around since 2011 and is one of the most desirable vans on the market. For 2017, it is available in two categories: the regular-duty 2500 Sprinter and the heavy-duty 3500 Sprinter.

The latest model is sold in three roof heights, three body lengths, and three cargo/passenger configurations. Now, it can accommodate up to 12 passengers in its new four rows seating configuration. Previous models were produced in a short wheelbase, but Daimler has included a long wheelbase for the 2017 model year.

2017 Mercedes-Benz Sprinters and Vans Performance

The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter gives consumers a choice of two engines to suit individual preferences. Driving most Sprinters is a turbocharged 2.1-liter four cylinder diesel engine worth 161 horses and 266 pound-feet of torque. The engine is paired standard to a seven-speed automatic gearbox that pumps power to the rear wheels. Optionally, the Sprinter can be motivated by a turbocharged 3.0-liter diesel V6 that cranks out 188 ponies and 325 lb-ft of torque. It transmits power to the rear wheels, and optionally to all wheels, via a five-speed automatic transmission. The AWD can be optioned with a dual-range transfer case. Unfortunately, EPA does not rate full-size vans, but the 2017 Sprinter is expected to achieve class-competitive numbers by virtue of carrying a diesel mill in a class dominated by gasoline engines. The Sprinter 2500 tows up to 5,000 pounds while the 3500 tows up to 7,500 pounds, regardless of engine. Subject to body configurations, the former's payload ranges from 2,973 pounds to 3,513 and the latter's ranges from 3,895 pounds to 5,585 pounds.

Interior

Although the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is not exactly the paragon of luxury, it is by far the plushest in its class. As usual, Daimler does not compromise on craftsmanship or material quality. The walk-through cabin looks and feels expensive, and the modern layout gives it a midsize SUV-like stance. All controls are logically placed such that they become second nature in a short while, and adjustable front seats coupled with a tilt-and-telescoping steering column provide ample driver comfort. Of course, the 2017 Sprinter is among the most utilitarian vans on the market. It can hold 319 cu ft with the standard roof height and 586 cu ft in its largest configuration. It also includes a 20-inch step-in height and 51-inch sliding door to ease ingress and egress. Additionally, its super high roof option provides a class-topping interior height of about 84.3 inches.

Features

Standard equipment on the cargo van includes hill-start assist, air-conditioning, a passenger-side sliding rear door, a front five-speaker sound system with a USB port and an auxiliary audio jack. The crew van and the passenger van receive the same equipment, but the latter adds eight additional speakers in the rear. Optional superlatives include front and rear parking sensors, cruise control, a rearview camera, and a navigation system, among others.

Safety

Standard on every 2017 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is front airbags, stability and traction control, and rollover mitigation. The Sprinter 2500 models get Crosswind Assist, front side airbags, and front side curtain airbags. Drivers can option for a surround airbag system. An available Driver Assistance package adds lane-departure prevention, a blind-spot warning system, a forward collision warning system, and automatic high beam control.
