The 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLA is a compact, stylish and smart crossover SUV. The 2018 Audi Q3 is also a small crossover SUV that offers entry-level luxury. Both of these family-friendly models run on turbocharged 2.0 L engines, but the GLA is more powerful and agile. Equipped with eight air bags and more than five accident-mitigation features, this Mercedes-Benz also has a clear advantage in the safety category.

For its small platform, the Mercedes-Benz GLA is appropriately fitted with a 2.0 L engine that has twin-scroll turbochargers. This compact engine produces 208 hp at 5,500 RPM and 258 lb-ft of torque at only 1,250 RPM. The Audi Q3 has a similar 2.0 L turbo engine that offers a maximum output of 200 hp and 207 lb-ft of torque. Having a dual clutch that seamlessly switches gears, the 7G-DCT transmission system is superior to the Q3's six-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission system. To enjoy even better handling, opt for the AMG® enhanced version of the 7G-DCT system that comes with a total of four extra modes. For example, the RACE START Mode generates rapid takeoffs from rest. The other settings that are integrated into this dynamic transmission include Manual, Sport and Comfort. Running on the 4MATIC® All-Wheel Drive, the GLA SUV offers a road-gripping drive in various conditions. Similarly, the Q3 gets good traction through the Quattro AWD system. You may further enhance the GLA with the Off-Road Package that includes the Downhill Speed Regulation and Electronic Stability Program. Both models are controlled by electromechanical power steering systems.

Eight airbags protect all of the occupants from injuries in the 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLA. Dual-stage deployment in the front air bags mitigates trauma to the face and upper body. This premium SUV is also loaded with active safety technology, such as the Active Brake Assist that automatically controls the braking system in critical situations. When set to run on autopilot, this SUV will be managed by the Adaptive Cruise Control. Accidental swerving and drifting are promptly detected and corrected by the Lane Keeping Assist. You also have some extra eyes on the road through the Blind Spot Assist that can issue blinking alerts in the side mirrors. With some guidance from the Parking Pilot and Surround View, you can precisely maneuver this Mercedes-Benz SUV in reverse. Although it has the Audi Side Assist, the Q3 doesn't offer as many driving aides as the GLA SUV.

The COMAND® infotainment system in the 2018 GLA SUV comes with an 8.0-inch display. Powered by Garmin, the built-in GPS navigation system includes a hard drive that stores updated maps and other data. USB ports and an SD card reader provide additional ways to import external multimedia files. Having a lineup of more than 70,000 global radio stations, the TuneIn Radio delivers nonstop entertainment in this Mercedes-Benz. You can also enjoy music and other channels on HD Radio and SiriusXM Satellite Radio. Rated at 500 watts, the optional harman/kardon®** sound system plays songs in crystal-clear quality. Offering up to 450 watts, the Audi Q3's Bose audio system is only connected to SiriusXM Satellite and traditional AM/FM broadcasts.
