2016 Mercedes-Benz CLA250 vs C300

Serving Paramus, Ridgewood, and Fair Lawn, NJ

Two of the most affordable and popular 5-passenger, 4-door models in the 2016 Mercedes-Benz lineup are the CLA250 coupe and the C300 sedan. Both are nimble, solid performers that provide plenty of value, safety and reliability. The CLA250 is smaller and less expensive, the perfect entry-level car for those stepping up to Mercedes-Benz for the first time. The venerable C300 is coming off last year's redesign with new levels of drivability and luxury. Both models feature 2.0L turbo 4-cylinder engines and are available in 4WD 4MATIC® versions that deliver ultimate traction without sacrificing efficiency.

Although both cars feature similar engines and spirited performance, the C300 motor delivers more horsepower and torque, but the CLA250 weighs 210 lbs. less. They deliver 26 and 25 mpg fuel economy in city driving, but the CLA250, which can run on 85 percent ethanol, provides 38 mpg on the highway, 4 mpg more than the C300. The C300 can go further between fill-ups, because it's fuel tank holds 18.0 gallons versus 14.8 for the CLA250. While both offer manually interactive automatic transmissions, the one in the C300 features TouchShift.

2016 Mercedes-Benz CLA250 vs C300 interiors

The C300 provides extra space for those who need it. It is 2.3 inches longer, 1.3 inches wider, 0.2 inches higher, and has a wheelbase that is 5.5 inches larger. On the other hand, the CLA250 offers 0.5 cubic feet of additional cargo volume. As you would expect, the interior of the C300 offers more legroom front and back, but the CLA250 has more front headroom. Both vehicles offer 4-year/50,000 mile limited warranties.

Both cars are packed with many of the same standard features, such as automatic climate control and an 8-speaker sound system with COMAND®, although the CLA250 also offers an optional CD changer. They both offer optional tilt and slide glass sunroofs, with the one on the CLA250 offering a panoramic view. The C300 come with a standard front-passenger multi-adjustable power seat, optional in the CLA250. Some other features that are found on the C300 only are AGILITY CONTROL® Suspension, available AIRMATIC® Suspension, brushed aluminum pedals, 14-way power driver seat with memory (12-way on the CLA250), LED headlamps (bi-xenon on the CLA250) and standard LED daytime running lights (optional on CLA250). The more expensive C300 offers certain optional features not available on the CLA250, including Steering Assist, Brake Assist Plus with Cross-Traffic Assist, PRESAFE® Brake with Pedestrian Recognition, Traffic Sign Assist, PRESAFE® Plus, Active versions of Blind Spot and Lane Keeping Assists, and Hands-Free Access.
